So the horn blows and we are off into the doubletrack beginning the blue mountan race. Its the first H2H race this year 2012. A very unfamiliar group we have as well. But thats not a bad thing. We have some new racers challenging themselves to the H2H race venue. I don't know who they are but I am sure I will soon enough. As we make it to Monster we have already thinned out. The grey skies have not yet dropped any water. We are still dry and there is minimal wet spots on course. There are a few racers in front of me and I don't know who they are. New guys. New talent. I pressed on hard. I cannot see anyone behind be as I ease up on Ned.  Is this it ? Is this how its going to end ?   No it did not. I was passed by one of our group members and I ended up passing one.

This race was a lot of fun. It began with about a mile of road before we got the single track. I got to the single track behind a kid with checker pants. Don’t know who he is (I think his name is Nick) but he got a lot fast from last year. Going up the first climb I passed Nick and Ekram passed me so at the top of the climb I was on Ekram’s wheel and Nick was on mine.

This was my first competitive road ride.   Going into the race I was super scared and did not know much about what to do or when to do it. The course was fairly simple, 40 miles of mostly rolling terrain except for two large climbs. My goal was to go as fast as I could for the whole race and not worry about where I finished.   As the starting car pulled us out, I made my way to the middle of the front pack. I was determined to stay in the lead pack for as long as I could.

It was an early 9am start and I was only on a few hours sleep. Working nights makes racing early a little tricky, but it's usually a rewarding experience. But, I got a few pre-rides in and was looking forward to racing my rigid 26" singlespeed at Stewart. It was really nice out and the conditions were dry, which is a great change from the last two years.
