05.20.07 - Inaugural NYCMTB All-City Cross-Country
race |
|
|
Mountain
bike racers took Manhattan by storm this past Sunday 05.20.07,
celebrating the grand opening of the first legal mountain bike
trails in NYC with the inaugural NYCMTB All-City Cross-Country
race. Congratulations to Team Bulldog members Ryan Sarka (Expert
15-18), Ryan Heerschap (Expert 19-29) and Jessica Hoeverman
(Sport 30-39) who all won their respective classes.
Situated in the northern tip of Manhattan, the
Highbridge Park trails are the result of years of collaboration
between NYCMTB (New York City Mountain Bike Association), IMBA,
and New York City Parks. The trail system includes 3 miles of XC
trails that range from rocky and technical to swoopy and fast,
plus a double-black diamond "freeride" trail and a dirt jump
park built by IMBA and pro riders Jeff Lenosky and Kyle Ebbett
Sunday's race course incorporated the best of the
trails, starting in the shadow of the elevated #1 train subway
station, climbing up a paved park path above Harlem River Drive,
descending then climbing the difficult "Rough Ryder" trail
(named for the rollercoaster that occupied the same site at the
turn of the century), looping around and down the flowy trails
of Fort George Hill, and descending the wickedly fast "Hessian
Hill" trail, named for the German mercenaries who captured the
Revolutionary War fort on this site. |

Congratulations to Brian
Lariviere and Julian Hunter ranked #1 for 2006 CAT3
Road Racing! |
|
|
As a result of hard work
and solid racing in 05' Team Bulldog riders Brian
Larivere and Julian Hunter start the 06' road season
ranked number 1 in the state of New Jersey for
catagory 3 racers in road racing and criterium,
respectively. Brian put in some solid rides in races
like the Hoositonic Hills Road Race in CT, Fitchburg-Longsjo
Stage Race in MA, and the Tour de Christiana in PA.
The Bulldog teammates took on a field of over 100
riders in the Downtown Criterium at Fitchburg with
Brian providing Julian with a monster pull in the
closing moments of the race, setting him up for the
stage win. Both riders are looking forward to
representing their newest sponsor, Campmor, on the
road and in the woods. |
